DISCOVERING VALTOURNENCHE

Valtournenche is a small, authentic mountain village. The unchanged charm of the past is still preserved and can be observed in the hamlets of the village.

A few kilometres further north, there is a plateau dominated by the Matterhorn (4,478 m), one of the most distinctive mountains in the world. At the foot of the mountain, at an altitude of 2,050 m, there is Cervinia, an Alpine resort surrounded by imposing mountains and glittering glacier crests. The reflection of the Matterhorn shines in the waters of Lac Bleu, a small alpine lake, named after the blue waters, tinged by an alga that lives at the bottom.

Valtournenche and Cervinia now form an important and modern ski and mountaineering resort, which extends across the border to Zermatt (CH). With its 360 km of slopes and 2,000 mt of altitude difference, it is one of the largest ski areas in Italy. The possibility of skiing all day long, alternating between easier and more challenging routes is possible along the valleys of two nations, Italy and Switzerland. The ski area starts from the 3,883 m of Klein Matterhorn and reaches the 1,524 m of Valtournenche.

In the summer season, it is possible to try out the difficult and famous excursions or climbing routes accompanied by the Cervino Guides. Another activity is to dabble in modern sports such as trekking, swimming, tennis or golf. Walking on the snowfields or in the flowering meadows, smelling their perfumes, sitting on the banks of a small lake, spotting a marmot, a chamois or an ibex, and looking out over the mountains are regenerating and incomparable experiences.
